My second-all-time-favorite-movie, Luchino Viscont's 1963 "The Leopard" is scheduled to be shown on the Fox Movie Channel (FMC) on Tuesday, February 28th.
For those who have not seen this, it has been described as the Italian "Gone With The Wind." Based on Lampedusa's 1958 novel about the decay of the Sicilian aristocracy at the time of Garibaldi in the 1860's, it is a stately, thought-provoking, opera-of-a-movie. The exquisite, 45-minute-long ball scene (which includes an unpublished Verdi waltz) is an opulent visual social and personal commentary.
Due to legal battles over the 'rights' to the movie, it was only a year-and-a-half ago, that this epic became available on DVD. There are two discs in the package: the original European version (with sub-titles); the 20 minute shorter American version (dubbed), plus the ever-present 'extras.'
I'm going to try to post a few black and white stills from the movie in the photo section
