Vittorio de Sica directs...what a beautiful movie...almost
everything about this film from the beauty of the actors to the cinematography evokes a world almost like paradise falling apart from both the inside and out. A portrayal of the decline
of an Italian-Jewish aristocratic family during the rise of facism and El Duce's power.
Who has seen this movie...and what do we all think?

Mon, June 28, 2004 - 7:21 PMI saw this movie on the recommendationn from my father, who is italian and lived through the fascist era similar to the ways these families did. Its one of my favorite movies, partly because its like a view into my dad's past, in the same way as americord is. I agree, its a beautiful, delicate movie and sad too of course. di Sica is great.

Mon, June 28, 2004 - 7:45 PMI agree. It's a beautiful film that captures the historical context of these people's lives very well. The direction was superb. The character developement was full and the story both beautiful and heart-wrenching.
