Very Very sadly disappointing...I turned it off after20 mins and went to the store to rent something else....BLAH. Although the lead american boy was a great River Phoenix meets Leonardo DeCaprio Actor...it still couldn't salvage the film.

Wed, December 15, 2004 - 2:50 PMTwo of your don't like. Two of you do.
I'll break the tie.
Liked.
Hang in there, Bertolucci usually needs 20 or so minutes before it kicks in and grabs you.
Not his best, but a hell of lot better than the crap 90% of America filmmakers churn out.
Oddly, the best scenes were the ones where the characters reflected upon vintage American films.
It's sort of a dirge for filmmaking in America.
Not for everybody, certainly ... but if you like magical film(making), must catch it. -

Re: The Dreamers...Bertolucci
Wed, December 15, 2004 - 4:14 PMit's on screen at the Seattle Art Museum on Feb 26th ... they're doing a month long presentation and discussion of his films ... looking at 7 of his films, psychoanalytically ...
now, I'm conflicted as to whom I should believe ... although I consider myself a tenacious film viewer, I am distractable ... I'm a sucker for a big screen, though! E

Re: The Dreamers...Bertolucci
Wed, December 15, 2004 - 8:15 PMOk this may sound a wee bit superficial, but...I have yet to see it (have a feeling I will enjoy it). The *reason* I haven't seen it yet is the American actor, Michael Pitt, freaks me out. I don't know what it is about him, but he just gives me the creeps.
I know, I know, grow the f... up, Ro. Does anybody else get funny vibes about him? -

Re: The Dreamers...Bertolucci
Thu, December 16, 2004 - 12:16 AMMichael Pitt is especially haunting in this film.
Camera loves him.
The entire cast is bewitching.
Why there such controversy regarding this film, I don't know.
To turn it off after 20 minutes? I was so mesmerized by the camera's movement, the art of it all, that by the time the story surrendered itself, I was hooked.
In a way, it's sort of like a teenage perspective of Last Tango. Maybe it's "First Tango?" Certainly a rewarding coming of age film that depicts an age when everybody was cumming ... or going bananas. -

Sat, December 18, 2004 - 10:56 AMyeah it wasn't very good - but worth watching all the way through. it was like a tv mini series about the 60s.

Sun, January 15, 2006 - 8:38 AMIts no great shakes but its still Bertolucci. Sensual and beautiful camerawork. One can sense the intelligence and poetry in the man. Compared to his best work [Il Conformista, by far] its kinda sad though. Worth seeing.

Wed, January 11, 2006 - 9:32 AMI really fuckin' hated it, I agree with u; they thought of doin' something about three hippies, but that was just one load of bullshit, I already saw a movie with that kind of story and those were the ones. This one sucks!!
