Have any of you seen "The son's room"? I Netflixed it and watched it yesterday. I usually really like Nanni Moretti (esp. Caro Diario), but was somewhat underwhelmed with this movie.

Any thoughts?

Although I don't remember the exact details of the film, I do remember that it left me underwhelmed, too. The performances were good, but there was just something missing. If seeing Stefano Accorsi a few pounds overweight is the highlight of the movie for me, then something's not right.

La Stanza del figlio is I believe intentionally "cold" in its intention to develop a drama on a devastating occurrence without using the standard tricks of the trade (think hollywood) of the tearjerker kind. Difficult task indeed: many are underwhelmed when the movie is over...

One sidenote: if you liked the actress playing the daughter, Irene, she is *outstanding* in "Best of Youth" a RAI TV miniseries which is been screened at Film festivals around the world.

I've seen this film more than two years ago, in a lonely theater past midnight--like home cinema, think ;-) What I can say about this embarrasing movie, and his powerful understandind of sorrow and duel after the death? I don't know the other Moretti's movies, but this appear like a firestone in my memory, full of roughty silences and inner music, because the emptyness is like that. Laura Morante is specially accurate, sensual too, and Morreti is simply atonishing. A great film in hard times.

I actually love this film. I find the quality resides in it's understatement. I especially like the scene with the Hare Krishas at the begining, contrasted with the ending. Ignorance is bliss, and gee that must be nice. I love the way that most things are left unsaid. The pain of the father is quite evident yet when it collides with that of the mother... the whole psychological trauma that unfolds was a little too real-at least by hollywood standards.
